We started our journey at the beginning of the year with the core mission of reshaping the provision of maritime education. As the year draws to a close, we have been reflecting on an incredibly busy and exciting 2020.

Early in the year, our MCA preparatory courses were made available, and we welcomed our first students to Onboard Maritime.

In less than 4 months, we saw our first pass by Sam McLeod, a 3rd Officer with Caledonian MacBrayne, passing his Chief Mate Unlimited orals. Since then, we have supported several individuals in gaining their MCA qualifications and taking the next step in their career.

Our course development continued and, in July, we gained Royal Yachting Association (RYA) recognition to deliver and certify their shore-based courses. In September, we teamed up with Helensburgh-based RYA Training CentreYou & Sea to begin delivery of both the practical and theoretical parts of the MCA Master 200 qualification.

Another achievement we are incredibly proud of this year is receiving SQA Accreditationfor our Professional Development Award (PDA) in Introductory Leadership and Management in October. Gaining this accreditation strengthened our position in providing accessible qualifications to more maritime professionals globally.
November saw us secure our first corporate client and develop a bespoke learning platform complete with tailored branding and features. We are delighted to partner with industry leaders and provide the platform for even more maritime professionals to access flexible, online learning.

Throughout the year, we have shared various thought pieces around the future of maritime education, sharing success stories and our students’ achievements and championed accessible learning for all.

And we’re just getting started. With plans for an online shop and expanding our course offering, we’re looking forward to a prosperous 2021.

Season’s greetings and best wishes for 2021.
